Future Herdsire?
Look out for this guy in the show ring next season. He has fabulous dense fibre with loads of lustre. A truly outstanding young male, MacQuarrie is by Cedar House Perez and is out of Cedar House Misseys Girl. MacQuarrie is available for sale as a potential stud male.
Black Suri exports
We have been really delighted to have been able to sell two splendid young black suri males to an alpaca stud in Australia. We hope that Sherlin Alejandro and Sherlin Corrado will have an impact on the Australian suri alpaca scene.
"Twins" at Sherlin
Twins are of course very rare in alpaca. And, likewise, successful fostering of orphaned cria is uncommon. However, apparently no-one told this to a persistent young orphaned huacaya male at Sherlin. He opted for a suri female and her suri cria as a suitable foster family.
Alpaca Socks
We are excited about the success of our new range of alpaca socks. We are able to utilise shorter fibre that was unsuitable for top-end garment production to make soft, warm and durable alpaca socks. The positive response following the introduction of our sock range is surpassing our expectations. Many people are purchasing these reasonably priced items for their own use as well as for gifts for others. This 2009/10 season over 1.2 tonne of shorter or coarser fibre has been sent out for spinning.
Shearing
As a part of our ongoing service to small breeders and lifestyle farmers we offer a cost-effective shearing service. In the 2005/6 shearing season we shore around 600 animals (including our own). That is a lot of fibre and a lot of alpaca spit! Our 2006/7 season saw us, namely our son Brendon, shearing over 700 alpacas.
Sherlin Breeze sells at the National Expo 2009
For the first time in New Zealand's history a black suri alpaca was put up for auction at the 6th National Alpaca Expo held at Mansfield park in Fielding on 27th September. Sherlin Breeze represents one of the most eloquent black suris ever to be seen in New Zealand. With less than 150 black suri females in the New Zealand alpaca herd Sherlin Breeze offered a fantastic opportunity to purchase for the discerning coloured suri breeder. Breeze has an amazing show record of coming up before the judge in 7 different shows, 2 of which were the New Zealand National Expos, with judges coming from afar as Canada and Australia. Our congratulations go to the purchaser Lisa and Keenan Scott of Waiheke Alpacas based on Waiheke Island.
